Savage Oaks Mitigation Bank

Sumpter County, FL

Savage Oaks Mitigation Bank is a proposed approximately 1,366-acre freshwater wetland mitigation bank in west-central Sumter County, Florida, within the Gum Slough sub-watershed of the Withlacoochee River Basin.

Historically altered by agriculture, cattle grazing, roads, ditching, and pasture conversion, the property still retains extensive wetlands, hydric soils, native vegetation, and strong ecological connectivity. The restoration plan is designed to improve hydrologic function, rehabilitate degraded wetlands, restore native plant communities, manage invasive species, enhance upland buffers, and permanently protect high-value wetland and upland habitats.

The property is directly adjacent to Jumper Creek Wildlife Management Area and lies within a Priority 1 linkage of the Florida Ecological Greenways Network, strengthening its role in regional habitat connectivity and conservation.

Savage Oaks is being developed to provide future compensatory mitigation for qualifying freshwater wetland impacts within its proposed service area, which extends across portions of the Withlacoochee River Basin and includes parts of Sumter, Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Pasco, and Polk Counties, subject to regulatory approval.

Approximately 1,366 acres of restoration, enhancement, preservation, and permanent conservation.
